Suggested route/locations for a day trip from Dubai ?

I will be in Dubai/UAE for 3 nights/4 days and will have a saturday in between (22nd Oct). Have a friend who has a car but he is new there and we dont know what route or locations to cover. I will not have a multiple entry visa so cant go to Oman. Any idea on what route/locations we can cover ? We wont mind leaving a bit early in the morning to cover more route.

I would suggest Dubai-Masafi-Fujairah-Dibba-Dhaid-Dubai. That will enable you to see the desert, mountains and the East coast. This can easily be done in a day.

Another option is to drive Dubai-Hatta-Dubai. This is a shorter route and enables you to see mountains and desert.

A two day trip to Liwa Oasis - take an extra day - absolutely amazing place. Stay at Liwa Rest House for the night.
