I know absolutely nothing about Dubai at the moment, but I have a 2 day stopover and was wondering if I will be hassled at all. I am a young, single woman just passing through from India back home to Texas. Is it safe for me to jump into taxis, stay alone at a hotel, walk the streets sightseeing?

dubai is absolutely a safe place for everyone. dubai is modern at the same time they treasure their islamic values. as long as you dont offend their values you could have a good time. you dont get troubled unless you invite it. have fun. cheers !

If you walk around on the street, you might get stared at, taxis will hoot at you, and (depending on which areas you're walking in) at night the occasional cretin might assume you're a hooker and try to pick you up, all of which can be annoying but is in no way dangerous.

Its totally safe to take taxis, stay alone in hotels, and walk around alone. If you do get a kerb crawler, just start taking a photo of their licence plate, it gets rid of them very swiftly indeed. And if you dont have a camera, just get your mobile out and pretend.

Oh, and before I get flamed for raising the issue - due to the number of working women in the area, any single women walking around in central Bur Dubai routinely get mistaken for hookers, so it is worth mentioning, and it has nothing whatsoever to do with the way people are dressed. Unless paint covered work jeans and steel toe-cap boots are a new form of kinky sex uniform that I dont know about yet.

I am also from the States, since you are asking is it safe here and you are from Texas I have to laugh with all the crime you have there. You can pretty much do anything you could do in the States in the 70s and still be safe here,so just use your USA survival skills and you will be just fine.
