Hello, I am busy booking a possible flight from Europe, to Dubai and on to Bangkok.
Economy class.

Anybody knows if it is possible to get a stopover for 2 days in Dubai..? Is it possible to arrange after I made the booking and are there extra costs?

I can't reach emirates today (sunday here)..

And also anybody has a slight suggestion what the costs are for a normal hotel or apparment for 2 days in Dubai?
I want to visit the city centre, and I want to Sandboard in the dunes....

I think you'll be disappointed with this. After living there and Abu Dhabi for several years I'd state that it's mostly plastic hotels and malls. There are things like the Gold Suk but I wouldn't pay a lot more and go out of my way in the intense heat and humidity just to see that for an hour. Enjoy the cultural experience of Bangkok and Southeast Asia. Your money will go tremendously further and you won't go away with a culturally-starved empty feeling! For that Mid East experience go somewhere like Oman.

Ignore above post, Dubai is a wonderful place for a short break.
Yes it is possible to book from Europe to Bangkok with a 2 day break in Dubai.
I regularly fly with Emirates from Birmingham to Bangkok and stop over for a few days in Dubai to visit family and friends.
On the Emirates website click onto Multi-Search to make the bookings.
If you want to change your booking at anytime there is a fee of approx £75.
I would suggest booking somewhere like the Ibis Hotel at Mall of The Emirates - dhs.299 a night.
It is walking distance to the Metro.
Arabian Dreams is a good company for trips to the desert- sandboarding etc. They will pick you up from your hotel.
Big Red Bus Company - a hop on hop off service that covers alot of the touristy areas, includes a dhow cruise on the creek, also goes to Atlantis on The Palm, picks up at Mall of The Emirates.
Captain Jack is a lovely little dhow cruise from The Marina to The Palm, runs every hour from 3pm (only dhs.60).
You don't say what time of year you want to visit - it is very hot at the moment but from mid september onwards it will be alot more comfortable,

Yes, and I have lived in Dubai for many years, have a business here and own properties.

The OP was asking for advice for a 2 day visit on her way to Bangkok not a cultural experience.

It is a great way to break up a long flight and spend a couple of days.

wandabug unless you were an expat that unfortunately got caught up in the flat pyramid scams and unregulated housing market I'm assuming you are a national that's allowed to own land? In either case, sometimes when you are invested too long in an area your perspective and counsel may suffer. Dubai will however, help you to appreciate Bangkok.
