hey gang

in a couple of days time, i'm flying out to dubai to live and work there, with my role originally commencing thursday, 1st september.

i;ve just been copied in on an all staff email saying that from tuesday, August 30 to Thursday September 1st on account of Eid Al Fitr the offices will be closed.

now this means that i'll have to hang around a whole week in a hotel in dubai until my role starts with nothing much i can sort out in the meantime like opening a bank account.

can i just ask, does eid el fitr come up totally randomly? if not, could they not have known and informed me earlier that i am not going to start work until the 4th of september. i would then have decided to fly out later.

i find that whole situation hard to grasp and make sense of. i mean they know i'm coming and can probably figure out for themselves that i have other things to do than hang around dubai for a whole week waiting for my job to start.

thank you very much as always.

the thing is the company provides accomodation in a hotel for me for two weeks. so once i have wasted a week, i have to find something within a week's time or they'll have to extend my stay in paid foraccomodation.

from an economic and time-efficient point of view, this super short notice makes no sense at all.

well, at least eid el fitr should be fun time to be around in, and luckily my hotel has a gym and a pool.

Eid timings are based on the moon and the exact dates were only announced a few days ago. Enjoy the time before you start work. It is a fantastic time to be in Dubai. Ramadan has just finished and everyone is celebrating.
