I have been reading about the Dubai metro and I think it might be able to take my girlfriend and I around Dubai fairly easily. There doesn't seem to be much forum information about the metro for tourists, is it mostly the working class of dubai who use the metro?

With the women and children only carriage does this mean that women and men are not allowed to mix in the other standard carriages?

What does everyone think of using the metro to take us from Deira to Mall of Emirates and for us to explore other areas instead of taking a taxi?

I had been in Dubai last October , I used the Metro. Its not only for working class , its for everybody so a lot of tourists use it.
Women only carriage is for muslin women, no muslin women can travel in the other carriages if they want.
Only the 10 stations on the red line is working for while - Deira City Center and Mall of Emirates are working but you will need a bus or a taxi to visit other places in Dubai. You can get a map at the stations to see where you can go using the Metro.

The carriage for women is for any women that wants to travel without men, not solely for Muslim women. You can mix freely in the other carriages if you like though.
