Hi,am going to Dubai over new years for a week. Looking for sun, relaxing, nice hotel...with a budget of around 130pounds per night. Does anyone have recommendations? Have heard mixed reviews of Deira....we are a young married couple...30yrs old! Unsure of what area to be looking in! Thanks for any help, advice.

Deira deserves its mixed reviews. Some hotels are nice while others are less so and none are handy for the beaches.
The beachfront hotels are concentrated along the south side of Dubai but since you'll be traveling during prime season you may struggle with your budget. But if you don't mind a hotel not directly on the beach there is a huge supply of hotels nearby, of which many do offer shuttle buses to the beaches. They tend to be a bit cheaper.
Look for hotels in Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Lakes Towers and Al Barsha, or along Sheikh Zayed Road.
As regarding beaches, most of the beaches are public except for the ones directly in front of a hotel such as the Westin or Jumeriah Beach Hotel, or the Madinat Jumeirah complex. You can easily take taxis (inexpensive) from your hotel to a local public beach. Jumeirah Open Beach is popular as is Umm Suqiem Beach, but the beach along Jumeirah Walk in the Marina has the most amenities (and is also the most crowded beach with the strongest rip tide).
The water will be cold at that time of year. Not freezing but still a bit chilly.

Deira is a good place for leisure travel.. I would love to hang out in deira city center and have a night out in deira creek.
Choosing a hotel in Dubai is confsing aspect. I suggest staying in hotels which faces creek. We have stayed in flora creek apartment hotels and the service was very good. The hotel is 5 min walk from deira city center.

Have you have already booked and paid for your airline ticket?
IF not, contact the airline of choice and ask for their ‘stop over’ or ‘short stay’ brochure.
As you are asking here I am also guessing you are looking at booking the air ticket online directly with the airline rather than with a human being – aka travel agent?
IF you do this before paying for your airline ticket the whole price – inclusive of visa (if required), ‘meet and greet’ at the airport, transfer to your hotel of choice, any meals not included, whatever from your bar fridge and a return transfer to the airport in ample time to connect with your outgoing flighd is bundled into your airline ticket price.
Since an airline bulk purchase hotel rooms, from my experience the room rate is always cheaper than the rack rate.
Your only extra expense not specified in the brochure will be additional meals and whatever you use from the bar fridge.
At least look at the airline's brochure, come back here with any questions regarding location and cost and then email the hotel of choice and do a comparision of costs versus what the airline is offering.

There are lots of hotel options at a budget by the beach and around the Dubai Mall. Have you already booked your hotel? I have a website for you where they offer very low rates for Dubai hotels.

You can look at Amwaj Rotana, Sofitel, Movenpick Hotel in Jumeirah Beach and Dusit Thani, Chelsea, Towers Rotana being close to Dubai Mall and in the city. What are your exact dates and ill find pricing for you as well.

@ Cordel - Dubai has a good metro system, so as long as you're near the Metro, you can get to the JBR Beach (Jumeirah Beach Residences) quite easily. From Deira/ Bur Dubai it would take you 40-45 minutes to get to the JBR Beach. From the metro station the beach would be approximately 15 minutes walk. A new tram service is also likely to be operational soon within the Dubai Marina area, which would cut down on the walk.
Peace and Love :)
