Dubai-Abu Dhabi-Alain?

Hello,

we are arriving in Dubai on a Saturday night, and leaving on Wednesday around 12pm. We would like to have a glimpse of Abu Dhabi and Al-Ain (to see the camel market) and to spend some time in Dubai. We don't mind about the desert as we will spend 10 days in Oman and 10 days in Yemen.

So our question is, should we stay the 4 nights in Dubai, and travel from there (we will have a car) or should we stay 2 nights in Dubai, one in Abu Dhabi and the last one in Al-Ain? Any other options?

Is it safe to travel by night in between these cities?

Staying in each place will reduce your driving a bit because you will not need to drive back to Dubai each night. For example, driving from Dubai to Abu Dhabi will take 1.5 to 2 hours, so that will be 3 to 4 hours gone from the day if you stay in Dubai.

You might consider spending just half a day in Abu Dhabi, then driving on to Al Ain in the same day. It depends what you want to do in Abu Dhabi.

Whilst you're in Al Ain, you might like to take a drive up Jebel Hafeet too.

Finally, we will spend the Saturday night, Sunday and Monday in Dubai. Then, on the Tuesday morning, at the rising sun, we'll drive to Al-Ain to see the camel market and Jebel Hafeet as you mentionned. We will then drive to Abu Dhabi to see the Mosque, the Emirat palace and stroll a bit in the city and get a nice dinner somewhere. After, we will drive back late to Dubai. On Thursday morning, we will then be closer to the airport and this way, we won't have to check in and check out from hotels...

The superhighway between Dubai and Abu Dhabi is very efficient and very dull so you have probably made the right decision. You don't say when you are going but ferocious midday heat during summer months will affect the hours when you want to be walking around outside. The guided tour of the Abu Dhabi grand mosque in the early evening is very worthwhile. One of the best guided tours I have ever taken was at the falcon veterinary centre near the AD airport, giving great insight about these amazing birds and their place in Arabian culture.
