Hi There,

I am in transit through Dubai Airport, and plan on bringing my Oral Contraceptive pills(birth control) with me. Will it be ok to bring it with me, I cannot skip my pills, and I do have my Doctor's prescription for my pills as well.
Do any women travellers have any knowledge of this? I need to know that bringing my Contraceptive pills through Dubai will be acceptable.

Feedback on this topic is highly anticipated.

Thanks!

I'm no expert on the list of banned drugs in the UEA (there will be a list online - perhaps check your govt. travel advice website), but in general there is no problem at all with contraceptive pills in Muslim countries - there isn't the same taboo about them than there is e.g. in the Catholic faith. In some Muslim countries they're even sold over the counter. Double-check with an authoritative source, but I can't see it being a problem.

I'm no expert on these matters, but it seems to me that as long as you are in transit it doesn't make any difference what you bring with you, as you are technically not entering the country and there are no customs checks.

Thanks everyone, I think for peace of mind, I'll check with the embassy here as well.

don't bother the embassy - you'll be fine - they're OTC in some places

why would you think they'd be illegal? you do know uae women use them and even unmarried women use them for non-birth control related reasons.....

You can actually buy them OTC at the pharmacy in the airport. No issues at all.

It's not a crazy question; dozens of the most commonly prescribed medications for everything from headache to insomnia to depression can land you months or years in prison if you're caught bringing them to the UAE. You should always check the list of banned substances if you're taking any medicines whatsoever, over-the-counter or prescription, on a trip there.

For example both Feminax and Migraleve are banned because of the codeine in them.
