I have a 2-night stopover in Abu Dhabi next Feb and have been looking around for cheap accommodation for a single female. Hostelbookers list a hotel called the Howard Johnson Diplomat which is about 30 euro per night, which sounds good financially! 3 reviews on that site vary - noisy because of disco and lots of prostitutes were 2 comments, but I can live with that for that price, as long as the door locks well and I have my ear plugs! Abyone stayed there or can anyone recommend another good value option - very basic is no problem as long as it's safe.
Also, if I wanted to spend a day in AD and then another in Dubai, is there a bus running between the two?
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!

Can't comment on accomodation, but there are frequent busses from Abu Dhabi bus station to Dubai Al Ghubaiba bus station, they run approx. every 30 mins and take about 2 hrs

That's great, Carsten, thanks for that. Any idea what the return fare would be?

Although I did the trip only a couple of months ago, I can't remember exactly, but it was very moderate, something like 20 dirhams or so one-way. But don't take that for granted :-)

The Howard Johnson is fine. There is a prozzie problem, but it won't affect you. I would suggest staying out of the hotel bars, though if you aren't interested in picking up a friend for the night.

Directly across the street is Royal Meridien--the bars there are quite nice. If you just want a casual pint, go to PJ's (next to the pool). The area is very nice and central--near the corniche and the main shopping streets. It's safe. I've never actually taken the bus (had a car), but the info sounds right. There was big talk about a Superbus between AUH and DBX, but I don't know if that is up and running yet. A cab would be in the 250-300 range for one way to Dubai.

Thanks for that, good to know the hotel is ok and I can still get a drink across the street!
