Hello.

My wife and 2 kids 5/4 hope to travel to Abu Dhabi in February 2009 for a week of sun and sand. Is it a good destination for kids and can anyone suugest a hotel on a beach to stay in?

Many thanks,

Nathan.

If sun and sand is what you are after you should be fine (though be warned that Feb is one of our coldest and wettest months - not that cold and wet mean the same here as they do in most other countries!). Hotels are pretty expensive here so you may want to shop around a bit. Ones that spring to mind that are on the beach are: Beach Rotana, Le Meridien, Sheraton and the Hilton.

Personally I would head to Thailand, much more interesting than Abu Dhabi.

February is not the best time of the year to visit Abu Dhabi but still I am sure that you and your family will enjoy it.
Abu Dhabi is definitely a good place for kids. They will love the beaches and also all the other attractions there. There is so many things to do!
There is also lots of playgrounds around Abu Dhabi and a Must visit with kids are the Al Ain Zoo and the aquarium.
Also a simply stroll through the city will be amazing to the whole family. Abu Dhabi property is simply fascinating with lots of high rise skyscrapers that all have a different but impressing design.

I am sure you will enjoy your stay there!

Hotels like Rotana Beach, the Hilton and the Sheraton can be quite pricey, if I had to recommend a more cost effective hotel I would say use the Capital Hotel. even though it isn't a beach hotel it's within walking distance or a short taxi ride to the public beach, the public beach has just been modernised and is very nice with great facilities, the Capital is very central as well, enjoy.

I wouldn't fancy walking from the Capital to the public beach myself, esp not with kids in tow....
