Hi

Apologies fore the corny message, but...

We are in Dubai for 7 hours on saturday morning en-route from india to the UK. I want to see the burj tower, and spend some time in Dubai town. So...

  • can we just leave the airport as if we were staying in Dubai

Is the metro the best transport to use?

What stop is best for the tower from a distance?

Where can we eat popeye chicken?

Cheers for your help

Apologies for tre typing on a poor keyboard.

Do you need a visa to leave the airport and depending on your nationality the visa is not cheap. I paid 135 USD for the visa at the end of last October .
The Dubai Metro is not yet in full operation are only 10 stations in operation on the red line.
To visit the Burj Dubai you get off at " Financial Center " station. There is a bus integration for the Dubai Mall, Burj Dubai is next to Dubai Mall.
I do not know what's popeye chicken..... but in shopping malls and also in Dubai Mall you will find all kinds of food.
I hope you enjoy your 7 hours in Dubai - its a fantastic city

It is better to check with your travel agent about the visa to go out of the airport.

Dont miss Dubai Mall Which near the tower.

Have a nice trip

Which airline are you flying on? If you are flying Emirates, ask for a transit visa in advance. As an Ethiopian national, you cannot leave the airport without a prearranged visa.

The metro line is a single line at the moment. It really depends on where you want to go and what you want to see - you can see the Burj Dubai as you whizz past in the metro. The other stations are to open between Feb and March so depending on when you travel, you could get off at the metro closest to the Burj Dubai. Popeye Chicken ? :-) I know you do get it, but not sure where. May I recommend a falafal or shawarma sandwich instead?

7 hours? you can visit the Deira district (which is really nice), take the water taxis, eat in the local cafe. Take a ferry ride, etc... or if you go further, you can go to Jumeirah area, take a photo in front of the Burj al arab hotel, (though you can't go in without prebooking at least an afternoon tea which cost something like US$65. Spend some times at the Mall of the Emirates, go to Ski Dubai if you like. After that take the metro back to the airport.

It is good to have the metro, otherwise, Dubai is crazily jammed with traffic. There seems to be not enough road for such a huge number of cars.
