Visa expires too soon?

Country forums / Middle East / Syria

I know I have to get a Syrian visa in Canada before I leave, but there is a problem in that I'm going to visit Egypt and Jordan first. The Syrian visa is apparently valid for 3 months from date of issue so I think it may expire while I'm there before I want to continue to Turkey... what can I do?

Unless things have changed, I thought most visas issued in advance were good for 6 months? If not, I'd say your chances of getting one at the border are pretty good. We have yet to meet or hear of anyone who got refused, despite the official line.

The multi entry visa is valid for six months, but the single entry for three months. The multi entry visa is obviously more expensive but in your case might be worth getting.

When I applied last, in the U.S., the visas available were only single or double entry - both valid for 3 months from the date of issue.

Nonetheless, you only have to enter Syria before the visa expires. Upon entry you're given a stamp which allows you to stay for one month, regardless of your visa's expiration date, and is extendable. The expiration date on your visa is only for entry.

Also, visa extentions in Syria are easy... takes a few hours and a couple dollars, and they'll usually issue you an addition month without any questions.

Wow, thanks thegrayrace! It does seem that you only need to enter Syria by the visa expiry date! That seems different, I thought you had to be OUT by the expiry date - and I'm sure it does work that way for some countries, I think?

My LP says that when entering you get a stamp allowing you 15 days in Syria, though, not one month...

You get a stamp for 15 days but you can stay for a month actually. They have new rules for some years already but they haven't made new stamps yet :)
