Short-term rentals in Amman

Country forums / Middle East / Jordan

I got a short-term assignment in Amman (June-August) and am looking for a furnished apartment. I'll be working near Bayader Wadi Al-Seer (8th Circle). What neighborhoods and which price ranges should I realistically consider? I don't mind slumming it and would love to live in a place with active street/intellectual life.

Also, what's the best way to go about finding an apartment? I see there are some listings online, but it seems like the kind of place where one has to show up and go from there.

Thanks for your help!

I should also mention that I'm from D.C. and am used to a 1+ hour commute, so I'd also like an idea of the commute if y'all have that info.

Try http://www.gweet.com (then feed 'Amman, Jordan' into the search engine). Jordan gweet is a new start-up being incubated by Oasis500. It is the first service, to my knowledge, where you can get an idea of apartments and prices online. The rest, as you say, you show up and are shown different apartments.
Sweifiyeh is an up-market area for living--plenty of shops, restaurants, mall--rich in international expats.
Unless you have access to a car, you most likely will be travelling by taxi, and from Sweifiyeh to the 8th Circle, shouldn't be more than 10-15mins depending on time of day.

I wouldn't worry too much about the commute time, it would be far less than you are used to. I can get from Rainbow Street (near the centre) out to 7th circle most times easily in under half an hour. In fact you might want to consider somewhere within walking distance of Rainbow Street to suit your needs. There is no great need to live particularly in the west of Amman in the usual places of Abdoun, Sweifieh, Deir Ghaba etc.
Have a look at www.airbnb.com</a> as well.

Hey there,

I am currently living in Amman, but wish to leave by the end of May, so my apartment will be available from June on wards.

I live in a 1 bedroom, fully furnished apartment on the 7th Circle (Badr street 1, behind Hotel Geneva), which is close to where you will be working.

If you wish to have more information on the apartment, please provide me with your email address and i can forward you the details :)
