Question about Jordan itinerary

Country forums / Middle East / Jordan

Greetings,

My fiancee and I are planning to spend five days in Jordan at the end of April. We came up with the following tentative itinerary...I wonder if anyone familiar with Jordan, could have a quick look and offer any suggestions on how to improve what we have/fill in the gaps. The itinerary has been changing by the day so we'd like to put an end to it. :)

FLIGHT INFO:
4/24 arrive in Amman by air at 4pm
4/28 leave Amman by air at 5pm
Would like to include (in no particular order): Amman, Jerash, Petra, Dead Sea, Bethany/Nebo/Madaba

Ok here goes:
4/24 arrive in Amman by air at 4pm
*sleep in JERASH, AMMAN or MADABA
**would it be possible to use this first evening to knock something off the above checklist??

4/25 tour of Jerash and Amman
*sleep in AMMAN, MADADA or PETRA

4/26 go to Petra(if not already there) and sightsee Petra(1/2 day or full day depending on where we slept the previous night)
sleep in Petra

4/27 full day in Petra including Petra at night
*Sleep in PETRA or MADADA...
**would it be possible to find a ride to Madada after Petra at night???

4/28 go to Madaba(if not already there) and tour of Bethany, Nebo, Dead Sea
Fly out (from Amman) at 5pm

Because we have such a short time, we felt we had to leave something out which was Wadi Rum unfortunately. We get the impression that it's a place where it's better to take your time and not be rushed so we'll probably include it in a future trip where we have more time and combine it with Aqaba/some diving, etc.

Cheers!

Arriving at 4pm, there is not a lot to do on this day. ( ....no idea about nightlife in Amman) It takes you about half a day or even more to see Jerash. You can visit Madaba and Mt.Nebo within one day.Havn`t been in Bethany and saw the Dead Sea only on my way to and from Israel.

The question is if you have a rental car, because IMO 5 days is really short to see this nice country. Arriving at the airport, it's quite easy to get to Madaba, but after 3/4 pm most attractions shut down. On your way to Petra you could get a brief stop (if you drive the King's Highway) at Kerak Castle. In any case Petra shouldn't be missed, Amman isn't that attractive if you're not into streetlife that is. Yes, travelling is always making choices.

my advice to you cakoqa is to get in touch with a local travel agency, and explain your situation and the time limit your have and i'm sure they could help you utilize it to the max. heres couple of resources;

Travel Jordan Agency - local tours operator

Trip to jordan - traveler guide to jordan

cakoq, I too had these dilemas and I just returned from my trip. This was the greatest trip I have ever done. I decided to do a private tour with www.jordanartisttours.com. They were amazing. Contact them and talk to Raed and tell them what you would like. I recommend spending no time in amman and spend more time in Petra and Wadi musa area. good luck
