Private boat hire to or from Cyprus, for round trip

Country forums / Middle East / Israel

i am looking to see if anyone knows of someone i can hire privately a boat preferably from cyprus to Israel for a short round trip, but if necessary from israel to cyprus. It is for a suprise anniversary present, and only for 2-3 people. I don't want to arrange a trip on a main cruise line or anything, as it's for a personal surprise for my friends! Can anyone help, if they know individuals who do this - preferably cyprus side, but israel would be ok too! :)

I guess the best way would be at the local marina, and have a word with some of the skippers and see if they will take you personally or let you borrow there boat?

Contact any travel agency in Limassol and they're sure to arrange something for you. But note that this isn't going to be cheap and will realistically be at least a 3 day trip.

I wanted to add that #1's suggetion will likely not work, as the boat will not be allowed to leave Cyprus without entry clearance from Israel. The martime relations between the two countries aren't too great after ships have repeatedly set off for Gaza from Cyprus, so the Israelis will want full details and won't been too keen on a private boat doing a one-off trip without any kind of official tourism company backing.

i am surprised to hear about that. I know cruises go to cyprus all the time from israel, and the docks are full of private boats. So why would the israelis need a tourist board backing if i'm just an adventurous traveller?+

Because quite a number of said private vessles have set of from cyprus to break the blockade of Gaza. Since those were highly publicized in the regional media, Israel isn't very happy. The last one that tried was rammed and almost sunk by the Israeli navy.
In addition there is obviously the general security problem of an unknown boat heading for the Israeli coast. After all they don't know who you are. For all they know you you be an Islamic extremist in disguise. Of course you're not but the Israelis are rather safe than sorry.
