Hi, Broke bone in my foot and not fully recovered before trip .Believe you can get horse and carriage around Petra - has anyone done this? How difficult is it to walk around Petra. Have walking stick but not sure how much i can manage in day. I am senior person. Hope someone can fill me in . THANKS
Petra is in Jordan, not Israel. I'll answer your question on your other post. Have no idea why you double posted it here. BTW -you also posted a question in all caps which I won't respond to as all caps are difficult to read and rude to post. | 1
I don't have an attitude/intolerance condition, so I'll reply... The paths in Petra are almost exclusively unpaved, though not too rough. There are hiking opportunities, but you can see some areas of Petra while staying on even ground. Getting close to most individual structures involves climbing stairs. Each of these obstacles is not impossible to conquer even if you cannot walk like a Tibetan mountain goat. But (and that is a big but) the archaeological site is huge. Most tourists (even lazy ones) end up walking several miles per day, often for several days in a row. So the challenge is the distance, not the terrain. The carriages can only access a small part of the whole site (though it does include Petra's most spectacular parts). If this is your only chance to visit Petra, use a carriage and enjoy the very limited view that you can get. If you have an opportunity to return in the future, use your own legs and see much more of Petra then. | 2
Errr... Petra is in Jordan, not in Israel. You need to ask your question on the Jordan thread. | 3
Sorry about caps but my wrist is also sore after fall and was just tapping keys. | 4
Understandable. Posting in all caps results in a situation where it is difficult to read the words. It's also considered rude as all caps means shouting; for me though it's just the difficulty to read issue. If your mobility issues are serious you should reconsider Petra. It is a difficult place to walk for healthy people, you may find it a real challenge. | 5
I went to Petra as an able-bodied 29-year old man in decent shape. I slipped and fell on some of the rocks heading from the entrance to the treasury. Lots of the rocks had been trod for so long that they are very slippery. To prevent myself from falling again, I had to be pretty careful. Just note that as Petra is very touristy and it's certainly not an extreme physical adventure, there is a lot of walking up, down, and around, and the paths can be rough, uneven, and slippery. Take caution and enjoy! | 6
