What's happened? Is your employer refusing to hand over your passport?

Basically yes, and thy've registered a police file against me - well as they haven't paid me since november i ain't going to work for them.

They want AED100,000 to get it back (via the police) as all debts need to be settled in full now before i can leave.

Is there no way your embassy can help you?

What nationality are you OP?

It might be a little after the fact but certain countries can issue second passports for buisiness people. But that said I'd expect you would probably need to show a valid entry visa to be stamped out legally on you're exit.

Have you any relatives or friends that could stump up the cash to bail you out?

Leaving UAE illegally and then trying to get into India, I reckon you would be picked up pretty quickly and more than likely sent back to the UAE by the Indian immigration (or jailed that side) and then you could expect a longer sentence for evading Immi controls from the Emiraties.

How long would the jail time be in UAE?

i'm uk, and yes uk embassy can offer second passport, but I need to show original one to get it, i could then use it for entry to India. But i've thought of that one, and I'm trying to get it with a copy of my original pp (original is getting some visa on it???)

I'm assuming you dont have a Dubai e-gate card, which would be the easiest way to get out. Although if your company have filed a case against you, it will be blocked by now.

One option would be to rent a fishing boat from Fujairah to take you somewhere down on the Oman coast, get a bus down to Muscat and then report your passport stolen. All the Omani border posts are computerised now so they would know that you havent entered legally - dont know what the current implications of that are, but may be less jail time than for the original problem in Dubai.

I know a lady who did 30 days in jail in DXB last year to pay off a $10k debt. She said it wasn't too bad if you like daal & naan. Pick your time of year though as there's little in the way of aircon.

Good luck.
