Jerusalem to Amman Airport on the Sabath

Country forums / Middle East / Israel

I am finishing off a trip in the middle east with 3 days in Jerusalem before i fly out of Amman.

I have just realised i fly out of Amman on Saturday (at 4:30pm) and am worried i may encounter some problems if i leave Jerusalem on Saturday morning because i heard tranport will not be operating. Am I going to be able to travel from Jerusalem to the Allenby bridge on saturday morning and will be border be open? If it is possible to travel on Saturday what time should i leave? is a taxi a feasible option? how much is that likely to cost?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I reed that the border are open at saturday 07:30-15:00 for pessenger and 08:13:30 for car.

I reed also that :

"Special Shared Taxi Service

A special shared taxi service runs from East Jerusalem – the Damascus Gate (Sha'ar Shechem) - to the Terminal."

this shuld cost more or less like bus ride.

all the best

I believe Jordan Visas are not issued at this border.

You must check your flight confirmation - and if you need a visa
in advance to cross the border. By air transit you don't need
but depending upon Nationality.

The transport from the Damascus Gate is Arab-operated, not Jewish, so that fact that it's Saturday will make no difference at all.
I can't help with visa questions, that's not my deparment!

If it were me I would do two things differently: first I would look at a hopper flight from Tel Aviv to Amman, it's forty minutes hassle free and the visa is not a problem. Second if the land route had to be done I would make my move on Thursday and forget about Shabbat or Friday for that matter. The reason for this is I like to take as much risk out of the equation as possible. One other option that is available is to leave across the Beit She'an crossing in the north and that too I would do on a Friday before 12.
