getting visa at the boder as an American

Country forums / Middle East / Syria

Is it possible to get Syrian visa at Turkish border with American passport?

Thanks in advance.

Most western countries nationals do get VOA at land borders in Syria including the Americans they have to wait a few hours to get the approval for visa by fax from Damascus.

yes, 20 minutes, 26 dollar

It's MUCH cheaper on the border (I think we paid $16 a year ago) for a few hours wait. There was no hassle and no problems. Just make sure you have US dollars to pay with.

I endorse post # 4 figures.

I think #3 is grossly underestimating the wait for the majority of people.

If you search, most of experiences state that its possible to get the visa, that its only $16 (they charge $131 if you go through the embassy), but you will wait somewhere on average between 5 to 8 hours for it to be processed.

It can be done. I did it twice this fall. Each time waited 2-4 hours. $16. Very friendly, no hassle, no problem. Just burueacracy.
