getting to israel from syria

Hi,

am i right in thinking that the land border between israel and syria is closed?
if so how could i get from syria to israel? can i fly or is it via land through jordan?

Yes - the border between Syrian & Israel is firmly closed for almost all traffic.
If you need to get from Syria to Israel, you'll need to go via Jordan (overland) or Jordan, Cyprus or Egypt (by plane).

And if you do fly, you'll need two seperate tickets - because if the Syrians find out you're heading for Israel, they won't let you into the country.

Take note that if you'll need to go back to Syria, e.g., if you're flying into and out of Damascus, you won't be able to if there is ANY evidence that you've been in Israel.

Keep in mind that even though the Israelis won't stamp your passport (if you request it), if you exit Jordan or Egypt at an Israeli border, the Arab world will know should you want to return and/or procure a visa. Depending on how important that is to you, you might want to consider flying. Fly one-way to Cyprus and then one-way to Tel Aviv. Or cross over land into Jordan, and fly between Amman and Tel Aviv -- which is probably a cheaper alternative. Otherwise, the trip between Damascus and Amman is a mere 4 hours. There is a northern Jordanian-Israeli border crossing, so you may not even have to go to Amman. You may, in fact, be able to get between Damascus and Israel over land in four or five hours. If keeping your passport pristine isn't a major priority -- and you won't be returning to Arab countries hostile to Israel -- go over land and you'll save a lot of money.
