From Jerusalem to Beit Sahour

Country forums / Middle East / Israel

Hi there,
I need to come from Jerusalem to Beit Sahour, to Sahara Hotel.
Which bus should I take?
I know there is a bus No 21 which goes from Jerusalem to Bethlehem. Is Bethlehem its final station?
It's written in lonely planet book that a bus No 47 goes to Shepherd's field... shall I take this bus to go to Hotel Sahara or does No 21 go there or is there any other better way?
Thanks in advance.
Irena

I do not know Bethlehem buses, but I do know that the 21 that is referred to and the 47 are Arab buses and that bus station is near the Damascus Gate. Do not go to the Central Bus Station in Jerusalem, the 21 there is a different bus. ( btw, it is totally safe to take the Arab buses)

Bus 21 is a Jerusalem Arab bus, the other bus is likely a local Bethlehem/Beit Sahour bus. The local bus system can be kind of tricky (no posted schedule or route). I would recommend the first time taking bus 124 from Jerusalem to the main checkpoint, walking through the checkpoint and then taking a taxi to the hotel (should cost about 20 shekels). Then the hotel can help you figure out the local bus/ shared taxi schedule and exactly where the routes go.

Dear alhaderech and yallah,
Thanks for your replies.
I did go by Arab bus 21 from Jerusalem to Bethlehem, then walk to the Bethlehem center (ca 1 km) where I took bus 47 (small local bus which takes you ca 1.5 km) to Beit Sahour.
Very simple, very cheap, people were so nice and helpful!
Best wishes,
Irena
