food and water in DubaiCountry forums / Middle East / United Arab Emirates
How safe is the food and water in Dubai. Stupid question but since one can't take in any antitourist tummy meds I want to be cautious. Thank you
Perfectly safe. Stick to bottled water rather than tap water though. | 1
No problems at all, it's not the 3rd world. Why do you think you cannot bring in any tummy meds?? There is a list of restricted meds that you can only bring into Dubai with an attested prescription but I don't think 'tummy meds'' would be on the list (can't be bothered to look through it for you) and Codein based drugs are banned. Imodium etc is sold over the counter if you need it. | 2
There are Pharmacy's all over and many are open 24 hours so if you have stomach issues that will not be a problem plus most Meds here are a lot cheaper then in the States. This is not lock down you can bring meds with you into the country not just some specific ones. | 3
If you want to try Shawarma (bread with chopped meat usually either chicken or beef, veggies, mayo-like sauce) - I considered it street food; be very picky on the kind of store because it is usually prepared literally by bare hands without gloves. Restaurants at the malls and hotels are pretty clean :) Plenty of brands for the bottled water to choose from. Tap water is possible for drinking but even at home we only consume bottled water for drinking. | 4
