extending syria visa please

Country forums / Middle East / Syria

I have an Australian passport and received my Syrian visa from embassy yesterday, it is valid only 14 days! I was planning on staying 16 or 17. Is it extendable once in the country? If so does it cost anything and how long does it take? (ie, pick it up next day or just on the spot).

If I can only stay 14 so be it but a couple more days would be nice. thanks for help. I have searched for this too but have not found anything I can hang my hat on.

It says 14 days but it is generally good for 30, and really only need to request a extension if your going to be in the country longer. You can always ask to double check at the embassy or the airport upon arrival. If you do end up needing an extension they are happy to give you one in any of the offices, but best to do so in Damascus. It usually just takes a day, maybe just a few hours. It shouldnt cost much, my yearly visas dont cost anything but I think 100 pounds for the stamps they sell you. They will need passport photos when you go in to get your visa extension. Have a good trip.

The two replies above are correct. You can actually stay 1 month on the "14 day" visa without any sort of extension. Don't ask why, nobody knows, but it has been that way for years.

If you want to stay over 1 month, you should get an extension. They are easy to get, take an hour or two at most immigration offices, and cost a few dollars. Just remember to bring plenty of passport photos, that's all you'll really need.
