COMFORTABLE hotel in Damascus?

Country forums / Middle East / Syria

Hey again everyone,

So, my travelling partner banged his knee up pretty good in a nasty fall a few days ago. He's okay, just really swollen and reduced to a hobble for walking.
We're trying to make the best of it, we are being extremely well taken care of in the HOTEL CAIRO in Hama.
(You guys, the staff at hotel cairo are AMAZING, i would recommend EVERYONE to stay here. Not only do they arrange outings and tours for decent prices, but they have also been extremely accommodating for my injured friend, going above and beyond to care for him. We've been on the road for a while and I myself have stayed in countless places over my travelling years and the Cairo by far outshines most).

But, my real reason for posting this is pretty soon we are looking to head to Damascus, if my partner is feeling it. Can anyone recommend a decent place to stay with nice rooms - not damp, new mattresses, decent shower, not many stairs, etc? I am looking for him to be as comfortable as possible, we've been experiencing soft/lumpy beds, damp/cool rooms, lots of stairs, etc, and if possible id like to take steps to avoid this - hopefully with your help! Any contributions are so very much appreciated.

Thank you all VERY MUCH!

I just wonder how your husband in his state could climb the stairs at the Cairo??
I have pm you

Ive stayed at the Cairo Hotel and Riyadh Hotel and both are excellent tourist
hotels and good value for money. Its a pity they dont have a lift but then the prices
they charge this can be forgiven.

Why not go to Damascus Hostel - its well recommended here on TT and you'll have
to go far to find a more friendlier host.

Thank you all for your helpful input. (He can do the stairs slowly, one at a time).
I'll look into the Damascus Hostel. Any other ideas are greatly appreciated!

Thank you again :)

Hi,

The best place to stay in Damascus would be in the Old City as that is where all the interesting things are and no need for taxi's etc! Pity that Damascus hostel is closed as it is well situated, Depending on your budget you can try some of the recently restored "boutique" hotels such as Beit Zaman which is conveniently situated in Straight Street and easy accessable by taxi, Dar Al Yasmin, Beit Mamluka and others. These hotels are all recently renovated old Damascene houses and they charge more or less the same as the Sheraton, Dedemann (Old Le Meridien) Four Seasons etc.
Have a great time in Damascus!
