Choosing love over fear (In Syria, please help with a project)

Country forums / Middle East / Syria

Hello,

I am currently teaching English in Saudi Arabia. I plan to travel to Syria in late March, 2010. In addition to seeing the sights, I am also interested in doing a project. Please allow me to briefly explain.

As a spiritually oriented person, I believe that we are all one. Ultimately I believe that we are spiritual beings in a physical body, and that we are all connected at this spiritual level. The problem in the world, however, is that so many people believe so strongly in the material world, rejecting the spiritual altogether or at least often enough to cause themselves and others unnecessary suffering. They say there are truly only two emotions: fear and love. Those who identify with the material, especially in trying to resolve problems, are actually in fear, not trusting their inner divinity or that in others to overcome their challenges. And where there is fear, there is no love.

My goal is to do my small part to help people (including myself) realign with their divine selves, which is love. I would like to set up a website in which I would highlight various cultures around the world and show that, while each culture and people are distinctive in their own beautiful ways, ultimately we the people on this planet are far more alike than different. In addition, I hope to illustrate how many people within these cultures are committed to acting from a place of love instead of fear, despite what the mainstream media portrays. My mission is to help bring us closer together as human beings on a planet that is rife with violence, hatred, and, ultimately, fear.

I am searching for people who might wish to contribute to my project in some way. Perhaps during my visit you would be able to show me some of Syria's culture, especially within the context of the loving acts performed by the people there everyday. Love can take many forms, including acts of kindness, enhancing the happiness of others, and bringing peace to a difficult situation. Perhaps you have stories of people engaging in these activities. Or maybe you can direct me to other websites where I can connect to native Syrians who might be able to help. (Is it possible to place this kind of announcement with an online college publication, or something of this nature?)

If you have any suggestions, contact names, and/or websites I could visit, please advise me. Of course, feel free to send me a private message. Thank you.

Abdul Ibrahim, from this end there are several people of such paths who speak english and would love to translate for the rest who dont. Several preachers (babas) also can do the same. I am also ready for such a task ;) Kuftaros Abu Noor mosque also has such.

Take care

Aisha

Oomwesam,

What I understood from MysticTraveller is that he is not into religions. If so, the people who you mentioned are so far from this approach.
The universal approach of love over fear is somewhere else, and needs great effort to find true followers.

When someone acts from a place of love, he or she is, by definition, not in fear, and this is a dynamic that virtually every person in the world engages in, to some degree and at some level of frequency, every single day-----irrespective of his or her religious beliefs. Even if it's just to stop and pet the neighbor's cat on the way to work. Yes, it's true: virtually every person in the world also falls back into, to some degree and at some level of frequency, the familiar paradigm of fear throughout the day. But that shouldn't detract from the loving exchanges that were made. In short, we all live in some combination of love and fear. The goal is to expand love as much as possible. While religious dogma may seem to be an impenetrable hindrance to this goal of a more loving and unified planet, who's to say what can happen when love expands in a person's life? Perspectives, attitudes, and beliefs change all the time. I hope to provide a medium through which a person can see the truth of love occurring in the lives of ordinary people throughout the world, thereby encouraging people to make changes in their lives so that love over fear is chosen more and more frequently.

SyrianRoad :D with all due respect please go visit Abu Noor mosque I belive you find nothing but love and peace, and I suggested these not in a relgious affair but knowing that these people are here to spread love, not a monoply of religion so to speak. They ooze peace and love so to speak and it was there that I found my peace and tranquility. :D The people I speak about have devoted their lives to promoting such virtures all over the world. Just thoughts, we all have opinions and thats ok :D I do agree that find good scholars that preach love and not condemnation can be hard. As with finding true followers. I feel blessed to have found such true followers and scholars. :D Take care
