Another visa question for US dual citizen

Country forums / Middle East / Iran

I have dual citizenship with US and the Republic of Georgia. The travel situation for US passports is pretty clear to me. I believe that Georgian passports can enter Iran without a visa. But my place of birth is the US. Most US + dual citizenship situations I have seen posted include a second nationality that can travel freely in Iran, but still require a visa. So they have already received a visa in their second passport. If I just show up to the Iranian border with my Georgian passport, which has the right to enter Iran without a visa, but screams US dual citizen because of my name and place of birth, what might happen? Anyone with experience or advice?

I knew a Greek-American case, who came to Iran, with his Greek Passport, indicating his dual nationality. And he passed the border from Armenia.
If you ever come to Varzaneh, let me know. Have not met any American in our town since awhile a go.

Best wishes for your Iranian trip,

Thanks for the response Sinasina. Good to know. But I'm pretty sure that Greeks need a visa in their passport issued from an embassy. So this traveler had essentially already been approved. Georgian passports do not require a visa, as I understand it, along with only 7 or so other countries. This is a pretty unique circumstance. But I figured I should try to get some input.

I know. Just please have in mind that, you can stay for a while in Tbilisi (or if you want another alternative place to stop over, in Armenia), and just get you visa very fast, like a 1 month visa, and head to Persia without any concern. In fact, I heard from many travelers that, they apply visa in Tbilisi and Iran, just very fast... .

There is no problem, just apply as a Georgian national. That said you might want to check as the visa policy has been liberalized recently and Georgia may not need a visa any longer. Try to contact the Iranian Embassy in Georgia. In any event you are good with a Georgian passport.
