6 Hrs in Dubai

Country forums / Middle East / United Arab Emirates

Hi,

I am on my way to india via Dubai airport and i have six hrs from 8 AM to 2 PM (my connecting flight to india departs at 3 PM). I already applied for a visa through emirates, so that i can go out and see the city.

Can you folks, pls give me some ideas on what can be done during those 6 hrs, is it a decent layover to get out and comeback to airport again?
I was thinking of riding the Dubai metro by taking a one-day pass, stop over at a couple of places, take some pictures and get back to airport, Can you pls recommend a couple of good stops and what to look out for!

Thanks a lot.

In terms of timing, give yourself a full hour to get back through passport control & baggage screening and then get to your gate. And you need to be at the gate 30 minutes before departure. The new terminal is huge, and I know a couple of people who've missed connecting flights through underestimating the time it takes to get through it.

At the moment, there are only 10 stops open on the Metro, so you dont have a massive choice, and most of the good places for photos are not on the metro line. Mall of the Emirates is worth a stop, just to see the kids in the snow park freaking out. Maybe stop off at the nearest station to the Burj al Arab and take a feeder bus through to the Burj and the Madinat Jumeirah next door which is good for photos and wandering. Otherwise, not too sure. Others may have better ideas.

If you take the metro to the other end of the line, Nakheel Harbour station, you will get good views of Dubai Marina which is an area of 'New Dubai' full of high rise apartment blocks. It's best at night but still quite a sight in daytime.

On the way back you can get off at Mall of the Emirates and see the indoor ski slope as suggested above. If you're lucky you might see groups of Arab guys in their robes and headscarves having snowball fights in the snowpark. It's always cute to see people enjoying snow for the first time.

You get great views of Burj al Arab from the metro line around Mall of the Emirates. It's quite a distance away but still great view. You'll also go past Burj Dubai, the world's tallest building. Again, it's a little way away but you'll get to see it. If you wanted to see it up close you'd get off the metro at Financial Centre station and take bus F13 to Dubai Mall.

My suggestions are

  1. Dubai Metro
  2. Dubai Creek
  3. Dubai Mall

Have a nice trip
