I'm trying to book a room at Tourist Hotel but have been unable to get through to them (just get a beeping sound - not sure if it's engaged or non-existant number). We have been dialing the number from the LP

00963 21 221 6583

Has anyone else suceeded in getting through to them and is this number still right? We are going over Easter (busy time?) and would prefer to have a reservation.

Thanks

Hello, I have another question. My family and I are planning a trip to Syria in late March and early April. We have our tickets and have sent for our visas, and so far everything is fine. However, we have contacted a travel agent who we suspect may be overcharging us. He has offered us a package costing 2800US$ per person for about seventeen nights and a car with driver. Is this too much? The breakdown by night is as follows:
5 nights in Damascus (Al Shahbander Palace)
2 nights in Palmyra…

I'm sorry to say but I'm going to have to bore you all with yet another visa question. I'm strongly thinking about visiting Syria this year during the l;ast 2 weeks in October. I'm a British/Citizen living and working in Holland. I'd be flying from Holland to Damascus. I've read in the LP guide this is that it's not wise to apply for a Syrian Visa in a country different to your own regardless. Does this mean that applying for a visa at the Syrian embassy in Holland may effect my entrance into…

Does anyone (especially US citizens) have RECENT experience with requesting a Syrian visa at a land crossing? If so, how did it go, and what do you think it might portend for someone in that situation this Spring?

I got to Syria about 6 weeks ago, and I'm staying for another few months, so I just went through the process of getting a visa extension. It gives me another 2 months here, but it does not let me leave the country and then come back in (unlike the visa granted to US citizens at the…

I will arrive in Damascus, Syria in March 2009. Does anyone know of a dirt cheap hotel in Damascus?

Hello,

Thank you to those that gave me advice about hotels in Homs. I need some advice about the "address" and "reference" section on the visa application for US citizens. I know that these can both be a hotel, but does that mean we have to make reservations at that hotel BEFORE sending in the visa application? Can we just put any hotel down and then make the reservations after the visa is approved? Do we have to have ANY contact with the hotel we put down before we send in?

If I can…

We will be in Aleppo on a Friday (unavoidable as we fly out from there on a Saturday) but I've heard that the souks and other sites are mostly closed on Friday.

What are good things to do in Aleppo on a Friday? I've thought about using that day for a day trip to St Simeon (sp?) but will it be difficult to find transport on a Friday (better to hire a taxi for half a day?)?

Am I right in thinking that mosques don't welcome visitors on Fridays? Finally is the 'Christian quarter' of the city…

Two of us will be travelling around Syria with a local driver for a couple of weeks in May.
We would welcome advice about tips for guides at sites that we visit, resturants, hotel porters and, at the end of the trip, our driver.
