My work only allows me to to travel Nov15 - March 15-- a problem in the Northern Hemisphere.

While I rather enjoy travelling in the Winter--less crowd of tourists, cheaper rates, plenty of room in hotels, etc--there can definitely be a down side, and some places where you just don't do it.

How "ill-advised" would it be to visit Syria during these four months? Which of the four if any, would be "better" or "less bad". Bad enough to wait for the day when I can go Spring/Autumn?

Thanks.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get a train from Amman to Damascus. I read recently that the service was stopped in 2006 and I'm wondering if it has restarted.

We weren't sure until today if the trip would be going ahead as our visa application was initially rejected and has only just come through today... hence, we haven't planned the itinerary yet and are running out of time!! Can anyone help me with the following?

Firstly can anyone recommend a good tour guide/driver in the Damascus area?

Unfortunately we must stay in the same hotel in Damascus for the entire trip - is it worth…

Considering thoses days of Ramadan, I would like to know whether this is a good period for travelling around and visiting monumernts and sites, or everything will be close or at least very difficult to reach and visit because Syrian…

To very short and practical questions as I depart for Syria in a couple of days.

1) I read on travelwiki.org that tap water in Syria is extremely safe and can be drunk.. At least in cities.. Is that true?

2) Is it necessary to bring a mosquito net? Or is it okay to use insect spray to shake them off?

Hi,

I will be driving from Amman to Damascus in a few weeks. While I am still in the States I am getting my Syrian visa. The application calls for "Point of Entry" and "Point of Exit." Does anyone know what it would be if you drive? Can't seem to find it anywhere-- and it is obviously not Damascus. I just don't know the name of the border station.

Thanks

Hi there, we are planning to travel from Istanbul to Aleppo by train. Is it possible to get a train ticket at Adana in Turkey to continue to Aleppo? At the moment there only seems to be a train from Istanbul to Adana. And then we would have to change trains. Or how else would make sense to get to Syria from Turkey? Thanks for help,
KA

Hello everyone,

I will be studying in Damascas for 6 weeks this summer. Is it adviseable to take my laptop with me, or can I rely on there being lots of internet cafes available?

Thanks very much
