Hi Guys,

Fully aware of the whole situation regarding travel from Syria to Israel. However there is one issue that I haven't found clarification on.

When I arive at Damascus airport, will they need to see proof of how I plan on returning home?

I am an Australian citizen. My ideal plan is to fly from London to Damascus, travel through Jordan to Israel then fly out of Tel Aviv back to London.

If I do not need to show how I plan on exiting the middle east then it sounds simple. Just hide all…

Hello,

I saw a new ruling here in Hama, I am assuming it is for the whole country. I think it will affect many of us! It states that if you take a Taxi and they do not run the meter than you can report his cab number to the phone number 115 (this is for Hama) and your cab ride will be free. Also so that all of you know it is and has always been illegal to pay more and charge more for the fare on the meter, and if you feel you are being taken you can take the cabs number to the nearest police…

Marco Polo very kindly replied to my last message asking this, but he says he's not sure if his Turkish visitors got their visas at the border or a consulate. Does anyone have any idea about the situation for Turks wanting visas at the border? Or what Turks have to go through to get a visa?
Thanks

Just a quick update for those interested.

Two Brits were declined a tourist visa for Syria in Cairo (ie. us), although we did have a "Letter of Recommendation" from our Embassy and explained that, as we had been away for ten months (backed up by passport stamps) there was no way we could have got either a single entry (valid for three months) or multiple entry visa (valid for six months) in our country of residence.

The apologetic but firm response was that Syrian visas are issued for Egyptian…

Apologies for yet another visa question, but here goes! The visa application form states that you need to put your address in Syria. I was planning to just finding accomodation as I went through the country, but does this mean that I need to have at least one place booked before I arrive? If so, should it be the first place or the one just before I leave? Apologies if this is an inane question, but visa applications are a new thing for me!

Many thanks

Hi, I'll be in Syria during Ramadan and over Eid this year. Can't wait! I just had a quick question about finding accomodation during Eid in particular: my plan is to just find accommodation as I go, but will this be problematic during Eid? I'll probably be in Aleppo on 20 September annd then move down to Homs in the following days.

Many thanks in advance.

Monday afternoon I Fed Ex'ed my (US) passport and accompanying docs. to the Syrian Embassy in Washington. This afternoon (Wednesday), almost exactly 48 hours later, Fed Ex delivered my passport complete with a 15 day multiple entry visa good through Feb 3rd next year! (Note - six months, not the three I was expecting.) This was so fast I hadn't even gotten around to checking status with Fed Ex.

Unbelievable. I think the only time I've had faster visa service was in Moscow, when my Mongolian…

I have emailed just about every budget hotel in the LP guide and anything else on any site I've surfed. Except for one high end hotel, I haven't received one reply. Is this normal? Should I be worried I'll arrive and not find a room at the inn (as we arrive just after Christmas)? All that seems to be left when I go onto web-sites (e.g. asiarooms.com) are double rooms from $180+. Any suggestions?

I have two brief visa questions. I'm Australian and will be applying for a visa through the Syrian embassy in Australia, using the form at on the embassy webpage. This form asks for the point of entry to Syria. I will be entering by bus or taxi from Turkey but am not yet sure of the actual crossing I will use.

1 Do you have to specify the exact location or would "Turkish border" be OK?
2 If it's best to specify the crossing you use does it matter if you subsequently use another? - I suppose…
