Hello fellow travelers,
We (Canadian and Australian) went through the Jordanian Syrian border today from Amman to Damascus and hadn't obtained visas prior to. We had absolutely no problems just had to pay our fees, there were no questions asked, and we got them within about 15 minutes. Just thought I would post this and let others know as the question seems to arise often and we were also a little uncertain about this prior to leaving Amman.

Cheers

Krista

Awesome. Thanks for posting this. One more quick question, did you have a letter from your embassy or not? I live in Thailand and may as well pick one up from the canadian embassy before I go.

Cheers

You do NOT need a letter from your embassy to get a visa at the border. That's part of the attraction.

Which border crossing did you use - the one near Ramtha or the one near Mafraq?

We used the border at Ramtha and did not have a letter from our embassy. We also were never asked the question.. If we had ever visitied Israel, which we have not.

How much did they charge you for the Visas at the border?

The cheapest option from the Syrian embassy in Ottawa is $73cdn for a single-entry visa valid for 3 months.
