Hi,although I've checked the forum I cannot seem to get a definite answer ie is it possible to get a visa at the airport in Damascus,I am a New Zealander and we do not have a Syrian embassy/consulate here, many sites state that if your country does'nt have an embassy you are able to get one on arrival, many thanks for any positive help. ps hoping to arrive around 18 August

I called the Syrian Embassy to verify that VOA isn't required for citizens that don't have an embassy of Syria in their country. I used Mexico as an example. Since there is no embassy of Syria in Mexico, I called the Syrian Embassy in Washington D.C. He told me that if the person lived in Mexico and flew directly from Mexico, then no visa is needed. But if the person lives in a country where there is an embassy, for example the US, then a visa is required. How would the Syrian immigration know (or want to have that much indepth investigation) if you came directly from Mexico (or another country without diplomatic representation) or not? Very strange.

Marcopolo, any comment? Is that the official line, but it's much more lenient at the airport or what?
