Hi,

I will travel to Syria from Jordan in around 1 month and I have found a lot of information about visas, forums, websites, I am from Argentina and there is a Syrian Embassy in Buenos Aires the thing is that Ive been travelling for the las 8 months so I couldnt apply for a syrian visa before leaving home. OTOH Ive read in this forum some people saying there is no problem getting visas at the borders (Jordan-Syria and Lebanon-Syria) no matter that there is an embassy in your home country. So can I travel oveland relaxed to Syria from Jordan regarding visa issues??

Gracias

There are many different stories about this. some people have been refused entry at borders, others have made it through. I certainly wouldn't risk a flight from Argentina to find out though. You're best to delay your trip for a couple of days whilst you apply for your visa...

I travelled from Jordan to Syria by land, and it was easy to get the visa on the border, they dont care you have an embassy in your country or not, just dont have an israeli stamp.

Lebanon to Syria the visa is also avaliable with ease.

p.s its better to buy the visa at the border that it is to apply at the embassy in your home country as at the border is half the price.

Not only is it 1/2 the price, it only takes about 15 minutes to get through! There are billboard sized signs at the land borders listing pretty much every nationality on earth and the cost of the VOA. I don't think they'd go to the trouble of putting them up if the rule of getting the visa in your home country was adhered to. As #1 says, so long as you have no Israeli stamp in your passport you'll be fine.

To my knowledge you can easily get into Lebanon and Syria and Jordan.

Syrian visa cost 28 USD for 15 days stay (do not overstay)
Lebanese visa free for 48 hours and 15 USD for 15 days.
Jordan (as i recall is 10 USD for a month stay )

Do not bother with the enmbassies as things usually go easy on these borders as long as you don't have an israeili stamp on you passport.

enjoy the trip!

Really? I don't remember that. Are the signs new?

They were there in November/December 2007. I didn't personally go to the Turkey/Syria border but was told by travelers that had come through that way that they had one there as well. The sign is inside the immigration building. The Jordan/Syria (where we came through)one is to the right hand side of the booths that you go to in order to present your passport etc. I was actually going to take a photo of it so I could post it on here but you're not allowed to take photos in places like that! But it was a huge sign, you couldn't miss it - it was the first thing we saw when we walked in to the building.
