Hi
We are spending a week in Syria in November and staying in Damascus, Aleppo and Palmyra in that order, going back to Damascus Airport from Palmyra. We have booked some great hotels, but the travel is proving expensive...
We are being quoted about $US200 for each of the three legs just for a car and driver. We don't want a guide as we'll use local guides at the sites (we want to stop at Crac and Hama on the way to Aleppo, etc). Is a hire car easier? It might be, but I imagine parking in the old city of Aleppo will not be easy! We will have a lot of luggage (we are en-route to Thailand) so don't fancy a bus. Flying seems to miss half the fun, and I don't think there are many trains...
Help really appreciated!
Cheers
