After having "successfully" visited Syria last year, I received a call from their embassy in Washington, which has informed me today that my request for another visa has been denied. Interestingly enough, the counsel asked ME if i knew why (there was an interview with the Mukhabarat in Aleppo last year, but who knows what reason(s) it could be!?!?). My question is this: I have not gotten my passport back yet, but I suspect there might now be a stamp in there saying to the effect "visa denied". I was curious to hear from others who've been down this road whether that is likely and, if so, would this possibly prejudice attempts to get into other Middle Eastern and North African countries (I was planning to return to Lebanon, too). I'd like to avoid getting a new passport, but this is a hassle I don't need; and even if there were no sympathetic relationships with Syria in these other countries, I can imagine a few raised eyebrows nonetheless. Comments?
I dnt think you would have anything marked or written in your passport. You could have the Syrian Embassy Washington stamped on the last page of you passport.
Let us know what happens please.

Goodyearbear,
Sir, from your posting, I can only guess that your"interview" with the Secret Police has something to do
with your recent application being denied. Perhaps
they thought you had been to or were going to Israel.
In any event, the local embassy had no reason todeny you a visa and was acting on orders from Damascus.
Would you agree that this is a reasonable assumption?
Syrian embassies and border guards do not deny visa
applications for no good reason.
This is a very interesting situation, and those of uswho plan to visit Syria in the near future hope you will
keep us informed as to what happens.
Best of luck to you.
as indicated in my posting, the counsel asked ME why the visa was denied. it is obvious he receives his instructions from DAM. I have not been to the Zionist Entity and the Mukhabarat is very much aware I am pro-Syrian. I have very good ideas of a number of reasons as to why they could have denied my visa (the problem is, it can be more than one based on my last visit and no one is going to tell me why). my issue is with the potential stamp in the passport, not the reasons for the rejection; the rejection did not come as a big surprise and i planned an alternative in case it happened.
I will let you know if something is stamped in the passport. If such a stamp is present, it does not necessarily create problems to enter other countries: Syria has its own rules and logic and just because Dimashq has a problem with me won't mean Beirut does. But I don't need other embassies wondering WHY I was denied a visa and whether they need to think about it, too.
