Hello,

I was quoted 5000SYP for a taxi ride from Hama to Crac de Chevaliers to Palmyra in one day. Does anyone know if this is a reasonable price or overpriced? Do you think I could get a taxi cheaper once I am in Hama?
As we don't have much time we prefer to take a taxi to the bus system...

Many thanks in advance!

Well it seems a bit on the high side its around US$107 ....
However, Krak is a bit far from Hama and so is Palmyra.

If you are in Hama go to Riyad Hotel or Cairo Hotel - they do daily trips to these places
at competitive rates but since there are 2 of you then it might not be saving much, I don't know.
Anyhow no harm in asking. Where are you staying in Hama ? The above 2 hotels aren't
bad at all their prices are very cheap and its clean and has everything one needs.

As Mesha mentioned i think it is only Riad or Cairo hotel who can make that kind of quotation/price.It is a good long day work and 700-800 km round trip not a bad price.i reckon.

Thanks to both of you! We will indeed stay at the Cairo Hotel but I thought to arrange for Taxi before (just in case there will be high demand, as it seems to be the case in Jordan...)

Hi miez1,

As a reference, I arrived to Homs by bus from Palmyra and was offered 2200 SYP (per car) for a taxi to do Homs-C des C - Hama, with waiting time in the castle. There were other 3 travelers in the bus so finally we settled for 2000 SYP - I think it was worthy, with almost two hours of waiting time for the visit to C des C and a smooth aircon ride.

Cheers,
Jose

Hi Jose,

are you saying that there was a 2 hour wait to get into the castle? So many tourists? :(

By the way, do you know what time the castel opens?

You can count on around US$100 for a car hire with driver for a day. The price you were given sounds right especially taking into account the length of the trip.

Off course it will be probably be cheaper in Hama, if you go down to street level and ask 3 different taxi drivers for a quote. They will probably be thrilled to have a day out of their city as well. You do not say how you came by the quote, and if there are any commissions, involved to someone for doing the booking. At least this way you can check out the taxi, and the driver. Sounds like a great day out, enjoy Syria.

Hi sandyfoot no doubt there is commission if a car organised by the hotel and there is big difference between and an old clunker rattling taxi down the road .
a car from the hotel would be a late model cleany. It comes with insurance that they will come to the rescue and assistance so you not left on the road side fending for yourself
Not to mention the quality of the driver is guaranteed and above all is safe security of the passengers. When you are a tourist it is better not to take a risk.
