Syrian Visas on Jordan Border

Hi all,

I'll be returning to Syria in a few weeks (coming up from Egypt via Jordan and possibly the "Zionist entity") ;). I'm trying to decide at the moment whether to
(a) hang around a bit longer in Cairo and apply for a visa here,
(b) fly from Amman - Beirut and get a visa on the border that way OR
(c) risk trying to get a visa on the border (main border point for service taxis Amman - Damascus, not Deraa/Ramtha)

Normally, I wouldn't even consider (c) as I have a British passport and am nominally resident in the UK where we have a Syrian embassy. However, this post: Kiwi/Aussie visa on arrival from Jordan a couple of weeks ago has made me think. Both (a) and (b) mean paying out significant cash either for a non-letter of recommendation from my embassy or a flight ticket.

So, can anyone back up the post: Kiwi/Aussie visa on arrival from Jordan? If so, has anyone with a British passport used this method?

Another, side question -has anyone received a multiple entry (as opposed to double entry) from the Syrian embassy in Cairo on a British passport? I recall a couple of years ago, the embassy in Istanbul would only offer single entry visas to a German friend of mine.

i deal with tourist from the west visiting Syria hundreds during this year i often raise this question with them about the entry visa etc and i hvnt yet met anyone who has been refused visa at the border with Syria that is Jordan Lebanon and Turkey .I have known people refused visa for having Israeli stamp on their passport.

But I wonder, how many British travellers who've crossed the border from Jordan would that include? And if you're working inside Syria, you probably wouldn't hear from the ones that didn't make it, would you?! ;)

It's good to hear though. Could you estimate how many of the people were British?

Any other recent experiences welcome.

check with trael agency in Damascus. they usually offers visas at borders : ulyssestour@mail.sy

Yes itfcfan,i also would like to hear from anyone who has been turned back at the Syrian border for any reason other than the Israeli stamp.,and the associated problems.

I have recently returned from the middle east my trip started in Amman , I took a shared taxi to Damascus being a US citizen without a visa I was unable to actually share the taxi because I was told the visa at the border would take as much as 8 hrs . From Amman to Damascus I paid 30 JD with 2 free hours at the border and was told every hr after I would be charged 5 JD. At the border I needed copies of my Passport I would recommend showing up with one in hand. Within 2 hrs I watched French ,Italian, Irish all without visas being processed within 30 minutes. I waited patiently for 2 hrs and politely enquired about my status where I was quickly processed and sent on my way . Make sure you have some USD on hand in march it was US16.00 for the entry visa .The Syrian people are extremely helpful and friendly good traveling.
