I entered Syria from Ramtha, I thought the visa was for 15 days, then I went to Inmigation in Aleppo to renew my visa. My surprise was when I was said that the visa was for 30 days, not 15. I was said it was a new policy. This was last week.

It's been that way for quite some time. You routinely get refused an extention at immigration even though the visas clearly state "valid for 15 days" !
It's just one of those confusing things about Syrian bureaucracy... But indeed, I have yet to hear of anyone that gets into trouble "overstaying".
