I am looking to do a Homestay in Syria in 2010. This will take some advance planning of course due to my job. I'm looking at doing 6 weeks, hopefully in Damascus. Can anyone shed light on where to start looking to accomplish this goal? Which sites? Or does anyone have any experience doing a homestay in Syria? I would like to learn a little Arabic and I would like to live with a family that knows very little English and not just sharing an apartment with a student or someone who is never around to talk with. Something that will give me insight into Syrian and Arab culture. Thanks for any advice in advance.

There are no agents/business that offer this kind of service cos there are too many implications
I sugggest first book yourself in an hotel for when you first arrive for a few days and in that time you can go door knocking in the popular area of Bab Touma the christian area where there are many houses/families that offer this kind of accommodation.
