I am thinking about traveling on tour to Syria and Jordan. My travel companion has a Jewish surname and is Jewish. He is concerned about his safety in these countries and would appreciate and would appreciate your thoughts. He will not identify himself as Jewish or discuss politics. He is an experienced traveler. Is this a safe trip?

Syria and Jordan are safe countries to travel for people all religions and tourist friendly.
As you stated above do not discuss politics with locals.

I agree with above reply: just don't discuss politics or declare your religion with locals. If they try to engage you in the type of conversation, just say you prefer not to speak about politics and change the subject. I did A LOT of reseach and contacted tons of people because I had the same concern. After hearing back from everybody, I am now confident that I wont have any problem while in Syria.
