are there any shiites in syria? would it be possible to find hizbullah supporters in damascus or would this be very unlikely?
You will find a concentration of shiites in Sett Zeinab suburb just 15 km out of Damascus. There are plenty of hizbullah supporters suppose to be in the Yarmouk area of the Palestinian,s camp
I met also the niece of Hisbollah Sheikh Nasrallah in Syria. There are a number of shiites you can find them also in the Iranian Cultural Center near Merjeh. The Tomb of Ruquayah is also mentionable in the suq of the old city.

hi,
you have nothing better or more interesting to do than looking for Hezbollah in syria? are you a journalist?
yes, there are many shiites in syria; and in fact syrian political ruling elite/class including the president are all shiites if i am not mistaken! amir.

Is it possible or completely unlikely to find a poster of nasrullah somewhere stuck on the outer wall of a building in the very centre of damascus?
The President is Alawite that is not Shiiti
You can find poster of Nasrallah in many stores in Damascus even in the touristic area the walled city. There is huge support for Hizbullah and Nasarallah in Syria.
There are stores that sells hezbullah paraphenalia T-shirts, suncaps and car stickers etc

hi tuli, asking questions has nothing to do with being ignorant. having said that, alawites (or alawee, as we call them here) is actually considered a branch of shiite sect as far as i know, unless i am mistaken again! amir.

Alawite is Shia. See here.
"The Alawis or Alawites are a prominent minority religious group in Syria who describe themselves as a sect of Shia Islam."
The Wikipedia article describes Bashar al-Assad's religion as "Alawi Shia Islam".
There are many Shia in Syria, but about 74% of the population is Sunni. Many (Shia) Iranians go to Syria after Hajj or make separate pilgrimages there.
