Ok, so yes, this is yet another visa question....but with a twist.
Apologies if it has been raised before but my computer wouldnt let me do a forum search.
If my application for a Syrian visa through all the correct channels with my embassy in my home country of Oz is REJECTED, am I still able to try and apply again at a border crossing? Or is there a record that I have been rejected previously and therefore should not be allowed in?
I am slighlty nervous coz I have put 'writer' as my occupation and have heard they sometimes assume writers are undercover journalists so they block your application.
That's all. I haven't been to israel, i'm not going to israel, i have no criminal records or anything.
Getting rejected would suck coz i sort of need to be in damascas for a flight for the next leg of my trip so any info or tips greatly welcomed.

Yes - that is likely the reason you got rejected. You could always try again at the border and hope for the best, however if you absolutely have to be in Damascus on a certain day for a connecting flight it is probably better to change the flight reservations.

When the London embassy (incorrectly) thought that my wife and I were journalists, they rang up to say that they'd be happy to grant us journalist visas, but that we'd have to apply for them via different channels.

I don't know what they're like in Canberra, but on the whole, I've found Syrian consular officials to be a pretty decent and helpful bunch, so I wouldn't worry too much. Having said that, it's probably easier to put 'consultant' or 'self-employed' or whatever next time round.
