I've read conflicting advice in guidebooks on whether I would be advised to take malaria medication when going through Syria and Turkey this April/May.

It's $100 to visit my local travel clinic to ask, which seems excessive since that's my only question (I've got all my other vaccinations).

Help?

I visited during the same times a few years ago and didn't have meds (and don't remember bugs/mozzies being an issue anywhere).

I traveled Istanbul down the Med. coast and eventually into Cappadocia and finally into Syria: Aleppo, Lattakia, Homs, Palmyra, Damascus...and onward.

I have lost count of the number of times i have been in Turkey and Syria- but I have NEVER caught malaria or met anyone who has!!!

Forget it if you travel only through Adana-Gaziantep-Aleppo and in the Syrian Euphrates Valley.
There is only a (rather small) risk in the far North East of Syria and in the neighbouring Turkish area.
