Hi,
I am looking for fun hostels in Damascus and the rest of Syria targeting backpackers. Are there any or are there only the standard type hotels?

Hi there, in Aleppo the Al-Gawaher Hotel seems to be very popular with backpackers - very affordable and wonderful staff. We spent 3 nights there and met up with loads of other backpackers in the "common room" and ended up all hiring a minibus together to go out and see St Simeon Basilica together. In Hama we stayed at the Riad Hotel which was just fantastic. Really good staff and a great vibe for backpackers. Those two were my picks of the best places to stay in Syria. A lot of fun and very safe and friendly.
That was a good choice Veedub I had a lot of good feed back from our guests who stayed these hotels ,reasonably priced ,clean and good at organising tours. If you cnt get Riad hotel in Hama then go to Cairo hotel is just as good.
I stayed at Ghazal House in Damascus it was nice and cheap like $6 USD or stay at Al-Haramein its prices are from $3 USD to $9 USD hope this helps
I also liked Al-Haramein and Riad (in 2005, it was 225SYP for a private room w/ shared bath, 175SYP for bright & airy dorm w/ ensuite bath), and heard good things about Cairo. In Aleppo, I stayed in Spring Flower (zahert al-rabie), which wasn't great but was cheap, and I did meet lots of nice people. It was 185SYP for dorm w/ ensuite bath. Another traveler I met said that Hotel Syria down the street was almost the same price for a private room w/ shared bath.
