Does anyone know anything about Sultan Hotel in Damascus? I'm unable to find prices, or contact info. Any help would be appreciated.
Or if anyone knows an alternative place that would be helpful also - I just need a clean, quiet (relatively speaking), and secure place to stay for about 6 nights the beginning of October. I do not need anything super fancy.

Bayan [bbahlak@yahoo.com] has apt type rooms for rent near the Central Bank. I have stayed there and found them good and reasonable--about $25.

I stayed there in May. Made reservations by phone at the number mentioned above. US$39 per night. Rather basic for that price.
I stayed at the Hotel Ghazal a week or so ago ..... 1700 SYP ..... basic, nice, and clean. The owners are very friendly and its in a good location. I would definitely recommend. They have a very basic website, and reply quickly to emails.
Grains, Have you checked out the Hotel Ghazal? Ask for room number 8 for a single ensuite, or room number 9 when two people. (These rooms are upstairs and quieter, away from the communal courtyard). You also get a breakfast included. It aint the Ritz, but the brothers who own the Ghazal are freindly and helpfull. Once you travel and leave Damascus, 1,000 to 1,700 SYP gets you some really quality accommodation in Syria.
