I'm a U.S. citizen about to embark on my first trip to Syria...I'm just a little nervous about my visa. What are some potential impediments to receiving a visa to Syria (aside from prior travel to Israel/Palestine, which I do not have)?

Don't worry. As long as your passport doesn't show evidence of a prior visit to Israel you won't have any problem getting a visa.

And I forgot......don't tick the box which on the visa application which says "Have you visited occupied Palestine ?" either..... yes there have been people who actually ticked that box !

George you have been very busy answering visa questions they just keep coming.Good to see you back on this forum after a long absence .
OP as george mentioned If you dnt have an Israeli stamp on your passport and you are a genuine tourist applying for a tourist visa, there is no need to worry about getting a visa for Syria.

Got the visa, and very very quickly too! (less than a week, believe it or not) Thanks!

In case anyone's curious, with the $131 fee, I was automatically given dual-entry. Guess this means I can make a quick Beirut side trip after all.

Must I apply for a visa to Syria in my home country? I am an American and live in Japan. I was told that I cannot apply except in Washington D.C.
