Hello
Hoping to spend a few days going from Qamishle to Raqqa and along the road near the Euphrates before heading to Damascus...İ don't have a guidebook...İ don't want to get stuck somewhere where there is either no hotel or only a very expensive one...any tips for this area would be much appreciated...

Deir Zur is a nice town and you can do some daytrips from there.
I don't have any recent info but in 2006, I stayed at the Ziad Hotel in Deir Zur which was very nice. Around 25$ for a very clean single room. It's at the canal, at the main square.
There are cheaper places. Especially if you're a guy, you shouldnt have a problem to find something whatever your budget is.

ziad hotel is a good choice. It was the hotel we were heading to as well. Yet, it is also the preferred hotel for groups. So quite often, they are full. After inspecting some really shabby places in the city centre, we managed to find a room in a hotel just about 800m down the road of Ziad hotel (down along the euphrates). It was a decent hotel, similar to ziad hotel, good rooftop restaurant. Forgot the name.
