Hi. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive hotel in the old city? We don't mind a bit more for location. Just a basic clean room with two beds and a bathroom. Thanks.
Hi The Damascushostel would have been suitable for your choice. There are few Boutique hotels in the old walled city. They offer top service and luxury equal to 4/5 stars.you can check talisman, beit almamlouka, oriental and beitzaman.they come at a price around usd 200 dble room etc.
There are also newly opened boutique hotels note yet known or advertised to the public. They are in Bab Sharki and Bab touma the most favoured areas with tourist. These new hotels some have not been granted a name yet can offer top quality accommodation at half the price ot others. If you interested contact me

I stayed at the Sultan Hotel for several days in 2004. The description in the LP is spot on: http://hotels.lonelyplanet.com/hotel/Damascus-Sultan-Hotel-P1000117943.html
It also has a very nice Shwarma stand and a small market nearby, and is close to the Baramke terminal (bus station).
Hi Baramke bus terminal is no longer exist othr than airport bus.
Five years is a long time and estblishments can change owner and change conditions and standard can drop.Check recent reviews on any hotel before you book is best policy.

Try Ghazal Hotel, Al Rabie or Al-Haramain, all about 5 minutes walk from the Old City. We considered staying in Damascus Hostel but decided it looked overpriced for what it is

Marcopolo, you write that the Damascus Hostel would have been perfect. Are you saying that it is no longer there? Say it is not so! It really did sound perfect for our trip in April ...
Hi joa 1313 Well i think when ever there is a chance to raise the level of perfection(can only stife to reach it) in any business why not do so.We learn as we go along for the last 2/3 years since we came to life .We always listen to our clientle(our main asset) and try meet their demands and needs of hostelling. Now we had the chance and experience and will come back in the new year(April) bigger and better inshallah.I want to take this oportunity to thank guests who stayed at the hostel and made it to what it is today.Home away from home in many ways .
I have been in damascushostel, I like the place; freindly staff. You really feel at home.
