Ok, well it sounds safe enough for even a female who is American to travel in Syria. Now, I am wondering if I might have any trouble getting in....due to work commitments I have a tight schedule for my 2 week trip in and out of the Middle East and I had to buy two one way tickets -- one from New York to Damascus via Amman and going home I am flying out from Cairo. The thing is that the only flight out of Cairo that would get me back into New York on time is on El Al so I am flying via Tel Aviv, not getting off in Israel, just a connection. I called the Syrian Embassy twice and both times they said it would not be a problem....any opinions?

I have not ever been to Israel so there is no passport stamp to worry about. I'm just worried if they see anything involving Israel that might get them pissed off and they'll ship me right back home as soon as I land.

Nobody is going to search your pockets in Syria.
if it's just a connection, then it should not be a problem.

good luck

And since you will be in transit only while at Ben Gurion airport, you won't go through passport control and, therefore, won't have your passport stamped. After disembarking from your flight, you head towards passport control/baggage claim, just like everyone else. But before you reach it, there is a clear sign pointing to a detour to the transit area.

Yup, as they said. Don't get your passport stamp. That is the only way to avoid Syria's trouble.

Anyhow, it shouldn't be a trouble. just don't mention it to them!

Enjoy Syria its a beautiful country and people are so freindly.

You will get nothing then respect by the locals there and it's safe place and lots of history.
Shame you can't make it to Lebanon!

I am not going to voluntarily tell them I am flying home on El Al, but I am assuming that information is all in the computer when I go through passport control in Damascus.

For whoever wrote Post #4 I am not going to Israel, so there will not be any stamp.

For whoever wrote Post #3, I am going through Israel on my way home NOT on my way TO Syria.

Wait, really? I always assume the computer stores basic background info but not your flight plans 2 weeks down the road. My recollection of passport control was a quick flip through the pages to find my visa, and then being waved along.
