Hello,

Is it necessary to get a departure/exit visa for Syria?? Is there even such a thing??

I am travelling with an Irish passport, resident in Qatar. My travel companion has a British passport, resident in UAE.

Have enquired with a tourist company in Damascus to arrange single entry tourist visa for both of us to save trouble of going to their embassey ourselves. They are charging 110USD for the 2 entry visas and then 110USD for the exit visa.

I cant see anywhere that refers to an exit visa, so is the tourist company just dressing up a simple procedure just to rake in a bit of cash??

Many thanks

I once got hit for an exit visa at Damascus Airport a few years ago- the cost was $2.

this was a once off, and was not hit again for exit visa on several trips

The current price of Syria entry visa in Oz is $100 Oz = $65 US.

I think you are being conned.

Hi,

as far as I know, there is no "exit visa", just a "departure tax" : the rate is, since august 2008, 1500 SP (25 euros) at the airport and 500 SP at the land borders (before, there was just a departure tax of 200 LS at the airport). It's just a stamp to buy on place, that the border police will stick in your passport.

OP may be your agent talking of a departure tax which is SYP 1500 each around usd30.from the ariport or SYP 500 for land border.
Single entry visa at airport can be obtained by yourself you pay around usd 100(euros 60) for EU nationals each at the airport when you arrive.

Syria does have a depature tax I paid around 500SL at the land border. I paid it twice within one week once when I left for Jordan and then again when I was in transit on my way to Beirut!
